Introduction

LEED Certification

How Steelway’s Light Gauge Steel Truss System will help get your project LEED® certified.

The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) rating system seeks to improve the quality of
buildings and their impact on the environment. A LEED® Certified Building
will be more energy efficient and offer better overall economic
performance.

Steelway International’s light gauge steel truss and wall panel systems
have a high content of recycled steel and can help your project in the
following areas:

• LEED® for New Construction (NC)
Material & Resource Credit 4.1 10% Recycled Content
• LEED® for New Construction (NC)
Material & Resource Credit 4.2 20% Recycled Content

The steel coils used to fabricate Steelway’s truss and wall panel systems
are received from suppliers who create the steel using the Basic Oxygen
Furnace (BOF) method. In 2005 the BOF mills in the United States used
32% scrap metal in their processes. Of the total tons of steel produced,
24.6% is post-consumer scrap and 6.6% is post industrial scrap.
In addition, our products are custom cut to length which virtually
eliminates any construction waste. If any parts are unused or damaged,
the resulting waste is 100% recyclable.
